John: That's such a great question, Tad, because my first instinct, when I heard that question was, I wouldn't change anything. And that doesn't mean I didn't make a lot of mistakes, I made countless mistakes. But in time, it seems those mistakes actually turned into blessings in disguise, so to speak lessons. So my first instinct is to say,
I wouldn't really change anything, I have no regrets.
But in a more practical way, I know there's a lot of things I could have done a lot better. And probably number one is I could have started earlier, really building my brand and marketing my business. And I think we can all probably do better at that one way or another. But other than that, it's been an amazing journey. And every mistake I've made has actually turned around and helped me in some way.
John: In high school, I ran my foot through a lawnmower after winning the stage and losing all hope of being recruited and playing at a higher level. I was a junior in high school, going into my senior year, I'd been elected a captain of the team. Long story short, I ran my foot through this lawnmower and the entrepreneurial business I had started in high school.
After two surgeries, 10 hours in the OR, a renowned surgeon told me I'd never play football again.
My grandfather gave me a book about Rocky and I read it in the hospital and just decided right there. I'm not giving up yet. You know if he can do it, I can do it. Long story short, I ended up playing for Notre Dame, the same school as Rocky Bleier. And years later, we connected on stage. I had a big speaking event and met for the first time. I'd never met him before and I told him that story and it was just talking about synchronicity and blessings in disguise.
So to speak, I made a mistake, I hurt myself but I came back from it. And I've used that same belief and philosophy and attitude countless times now to pick myself back up when I make a mistake. And I truly believe that's one of the most important elements, if you will, or keys to success.
John: Well, I meditate every day, and I have for 10 plus years. First thing in the morning, it's a very important way for me to clear my head, so to speak, and focus on what's important, focus on breathing, just getting relaxed.
And I find that it's critically important that we lead with grace,
we lead with inner confidence, inner peace, and not fear and threat and anxiety. So I found that to be extremely helpful in all of my work is just beginning the day meditatively. And then throughout the day, finding ways to just calm myself.
John: I think I'd move a lot of things forward more, instead of waiting and thinking, well, someday, someday I'll do something really big. I think I'd find ways to pull it forward more quickly, get there faster, so to speak. That might mean I make my mistakes faster but I'd try to find a way to accelerate.
John: I wake up every day thinking about what could I write? What could I say? What could I offer to help this world improve, so to speak, and pull together? I have a website, https://www.johnjmurphy.org/. And on that website are links to all of my social media channels, including a YouTube channel, where I offer over 200, free self help video clips.
